St Mary’s is a small, peaceful village just a short drive from the conveniences of Kirkwall. There is a local shop/Post Office (currently open Monday-Friday 9.00am – 1.30pm) and a small play park, suitable for younger children.
Enjoy exploring the East Mainland and linked South Isles where you will find wildlife in abundance along the shores and cliffs. The local Sailing Club are regularly active in the bay during the summer months and there are many sandy beaches nearby for all the family to enjoy. Boat trips, fishing and diving sites are also nearby.

Directions:
The easiest way to get to Rockworks Chalets is to take the Gill’s Bay to St. Margaret’s Hope ferry which is quicker than the Scrabster to Stromness route. You also arrive closer to the property when you disembark at St. Margaret’s Hope. From the ferry terminal simply follow the road towards Kirkwall over the Churchill Barriers and Rockworks Chalets is on the right just after the final barrier you drive across.
You can also fly to Kirkwall from UK airports and hire a car from the airport.
Booking your Ferry: We highly recommend that you book your ferry as soon as possible as ferries get very busy. You can call Pentland Ferries on 01856 831226. We also recommend taking out travel insurance in case of delays and cancellations.
